The national emblem of India is designed as a model of Emperor Ashoka's Sarnath Simhamudra. Of the four lions, one faces forward. Below the lions are the Chakras (Dharmachakra Wheel of Law), horses, elephants, lions, and bulls on either side. The sentence 'Satyameva Jayate' from the Mundakopanishad is written in Devanagari script. The national emblem was approved on January 26, 1950. Truth always wins.
